Rachel Garrard: Interrelated Echoes
September – October, 2014
Tanja Grunert Gallery, New York
Interrelated Echoes is a durational performance exhibition of the English artist rachel garrard. Coinciding with her solo show in New York, Garrard will carry out durational performances in which she lies in a fetal position within a vessel, a temporary structure seemingly housing the physical body as the body temporarily houses the soul—literally transforming herself into a living sculpture. When the artist is no longer present, the sculpture embodies her residual form, questioning the presence left in absence through symbolic form. Performances are scheduled between 6 – 8 p.m. at Tanja Grunert Gallery, performances are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 10; Wednesday, September 24; Saturday, September 27; Wednesday, October 1; and Saturday, October 18. Garrard’s final performance will be followed by an artist talk: Rachel Garrard in conversation with Charlotta Kotik.
